Portable Colour Measurement

Colour measurement to the CIELAB convention requires precise illumination and measurement geometry.  Using a combination of fibre optic and diode array technology, AstraNet Systems have developed a novel colour measurement system that not only offers exceptional value for money but is rugged – there are no moving parts - highly portable and provides virtually instantaneous results. A powerful light source is connected to a fibre optic bundle to provide annular illumination at 45° to the sample. A lens collects reflected light normally to the sample (0°) into a single return fibre, back to one of AstraNet's portable diode array spectrophotometers.

The system is ideal for to the measurement of homogeneous powders and solid samples up to 25 mm in diameter, but the use of fibre optics confers the huge advantage that the instrument can be brought to the sample rather than the other way around.

Measurement of large or irregularly shaped objects -difficult or even impossible with conventional colour measurement instrumentation - is made easy. A choice of models caters for different wavelength ranges, including a Near Infra-Red version capable of measurement up to 1.7 microns for military and other specialised applications.  Dedicated colour software is available to calculate CIE and ΔE values for comparison purposes.
